Tesla Superchargers To Support Ford Electric Vehicles Starting In Early 2024

Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Ford CEO Jim Farley announced that starting early next year, over 12,000 Superchargers will support Ford’s electric vehicles. And Farley also said that next-generation Ford vehicles will come with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, which is Tesla’s standardized charging system.

During a Twitter Space call, Musk said that Tesla does not want its superchargers to be a “walled garden.” And Musk pointed out that Tesla wants Ford and other auto companies to be on an equal footing in terms of dependable electric vehicle charging systems.

Tesla is also going to develop an adapter that would be provided to customers who buy any of Ford’s EVs like the F-150 Lightning truck, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit delivery van. Ford’s EVs are compatible with electric vehicle chargers with CCS (Combined Charging System) plugs. Plus Ford’s next-generation EV platform – expected to arrive in 2025 – will be compatible with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard port.

Ford is going to continue supporting its own BlueOval charging network as well. BlueOval is expected to grow by 1,800 DC fast charging stations by early 2024.

Tesla started opening up its Supercharger network earlier this year, specifically in Europe. For non-Tesla users to charge their vehicles at the Tesla Superchargers, they could use a Magic Dock. The Magic Dock is a CCS adapter that links to the connector.

While Tesla has been the dominant electric vehicle maker, other manufacturers are slowly catching up. However, Tesla has dropped its prices multiple times to drive more demand for its vehicles.
