Today Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) announced it produced and delivered half a million vehicles in line with the company’s most recent guidance. And in addition, Model Y production in Shanghai has started with deliveries expected to begin shortly.

“Our net income and cash flow results will be announced along with the rest of our financial performance when we announce Q4 earnings. Our delivery count should be viewed as slightly conservative, as we only count a car as delivered if it is transferred to the customer and all paperwork is correct. Final numbers could vary by up to 0.5% or more. Tesla vehicle deliveries represent only one measure of the company’s financial performance and should not be relied on as an indicator of quarterly financial results, which depend on a variety of factors, including the cost of sales, foreign exchange movements and mix of directly leased vehicles,” said Tesla in a statement.

These are the details about the deliveries:

Q4 2020

Model S/X: 16,097 (produced) / 18,920 (delivered) / 11% (subject to operating lease accounting)

Model 3/Y: 163,660 (produced) / 161,650 (delivered) / 7% (subject to operating lease accounting)

Total: 179,757 (produced) / 180,570 (delivered) / 8% (subject to operating lease accounting)

2020 Total

Model S/X: 54,805 (produced) / 57,039 (delivered)

Model 3/Y: 454,932 (produced) / 442,511 (delivered)

Total: 509,737 (produced) / 499,550 (delivered)

In January 2020, Musk said that he had a goal of achieving 500,000 vehicles delivered for the company. But the impact of the pandemic was not expected last year.

“So proud of the Tesla team for achieving this major milestone! At the start of Tesla, I thought we had (optimistically) a 10% chance of surviving at all,” wrote Tesla CEO Elon Musk in a tweet.

In related news, Musk also said that vehicles that were delivered in the final 3 days of 2020 would receive 3 months free of the full self-driving software package.

“Delivery & docs must be fully complete by midnight Dec 31st,” said Musk on Twitter.

The driver-assistance system is expected to be released soon.
