- Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) announced it has added Hiromichi Mizuno as the newest member of its board of directors and audit committee
Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) announced it has added Hiromichi Mizuno as the newest member of its board of directors and audit committee. Mizuno has worked in finance and investments across his whole career spanning Tokyo, New York, London, Hong Kong, and Silicon Valley.
Hiro most recently served as Executive Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Japan’s Government Pension Investment Fund — which is the largest pension fund in the world with approximately $1.5 trillion in assets under management.
Interestingly, Mizuno was recently praised by Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk after revealing the fund he was managing would stop lending money to short sellers. Tesla’s stock is often the most pursued by short-sellers.
“During his time there, Hiro emphasized the importance of environmental considerations in portfolio management and became a global thought leader in sustainable and responsible investment. He also challenged many established market practices, including short-selling, to promote long-term value creation by corporations,” said Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) in a statement.
Here is a tweet that Musk wrote about the addition of Mizuno to the board:
Welcome @hiromichimizuno to the Tesla board! Honored to have you.

Mizuno also has expertise in international policy as he is a member of numerous business and government advisory boards, including the board of the PRI (an initiative to promote responsible investment in partnership with the United Nations), the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council, and the Japanese government’s strategic fund integrated advisory board.
The addition of Mizuno brings the company’s board to ten members. Other members include Elon Musk, Robyn Denholm, Ira Ehrenpreis, Larry Ellison, Antonio Gracias, Steve Jurvetson, James Murdoch, Kimbal Musk, and Kathleen Wilson-Thompson.
Later this year, Gracias and Jurvetson will be leaving the board according to a company regulatory filing.
