TGS Acquires Apparition Geoservices To Enhance Seismic Efficiency And Subsurface Imaging

TGS announced the acquisition of Apparition Geoservices GmbH, gaining exclusive access to the company’s proprietary simultaneous source acquisition and separation technology. The deal strengthens TGS’ seismic technology portfolio and is expected to deliver significant improvements in operational efficiency, source capacity, and subsurface imaging capabilities.

Apparition’s technology enables multiple seismic sound sources to operate simultaneously in a controlled and coordinated manner. Unlike conventional dithering techniques, the system uses precise timing to distinguish individual sources, allowing overlapping signals to be separated more effectively and resulting in cleaner processing and higher quality seismic data.

TGS said it has spent the past two years testing the Apparition technology in various marine environments and acquisition configurations in collaboration with the Apparition team and key customers. The testing included a Hexa Source configuration, which demonstrated substantial improvements in source efficiency and signal-to-noise performance.

According to the company, the technology delivered operational efficiency gains of as much as 30%, while also providing cleaner signal recovery, stronger low-frequency performance, and improved imaging of deeper and more complex geological structures.

The acquisition complements TGS’ Gemini Enhanced Frequency Source technology and will enable the company to provide scalable multi-source and multi-component seismic programs across ocean bottom node, towed streamer, and Ultra-High Resolution 3D surveys. TGS believes the combined capabilities will help customers lower survey costs, shorten project timelines, and make better-informed exploration and development decisions.

By integrating Apparition into its existing acquisition and imaging workflows, TGS expects to strengthen its ability to address increasingly complex exploration challenges. The company noted that the combination of Apparition, Gemini technology, and its Ramform fleet creates a platform designed to improve efficiency and accelerate customer decision-making.

TGS provides energy data and intelligence solutions to companies across the energy value chain. The company maintains an extensive global energy data library and offers technology-driven insights that support exploration and production activities worldwide.

KEY QUOTES:

“The acquisition of Apparition strengthens our technology portfolio and enhances our ability to deliver measurable value to clients. Apparition is central to our multisource and deblending strategy and reflects the direction set out in TGS’ integrated technology roadmap.”

“By combining Apparition with our Gemini technology and Ramform fleet, we can increase efficiency, expand source capacity and improve data quality, helping clients reduce project timelines, manage costs and make more confident decisions.”
