The Armstrong Company, a global moving and supply chain company, has announced a leadership transition that marks the rise of a new generation within the nearly 70-year-old family enterprise.
Todd Watson has moved from his role as CEO into a co-chair position, while his cousin, Mark Pickens, has also been appointed co-chair. Together, they represent both sides of the multi-generational family business, the Watson family and the Springer family, becoming the company’s third generation of leaders. Will Abbay, who has served as chief operating officer since 2021 and brings 25 years of experience with the organization, has succeeded Watson as CEO. Abbay will oversee day-to-day operations across 34 U.S. markets.
Under the new structure, the co-chairs will serve as final decision-makers on major company plans and act as a conduit between daily operations and corporate governance. Former co-chairs Tom Watson and Karen Field Isaacman will remain on the board of directors, continuing to provide guidance on long-term strategy. The pair, whose fathers founded The Armstrong Company in 1957, had served as co-chairs since 2013 and led the company’s transformation into a global logistics leader.
Founded in 1957, The Armstrong Company provides supply chain services as well as residential and commercial moving solutions through a nationwide network of local experts.
KEY QUOTES
“These leadership shifts are intentional and designed to position Armstrong for the next chapter of growth. As I shift into co-chair and Will into the CEO position, we are creating clearer separation between governance and management. Armstrong was founded as a family business, and it will remain that way. This new structure establishes sharper strategic oversight and a durable framework designed to propel our organization forward and maintain our long-term, multi-generational legacy.”
Todd Watson, Co-Chair Of The Armstrong Company
“Mark and I are honored for the opportunity to represent the third generation of the Watson and Springer families. My father, Tom, and Karen have been instrumental in extraordinary achievements that brought company growth, service diversification and team stability. They’re both admirable role models to us, and Mark and I aim to drive the upward momentum they’ve built over several decades and write a bold new chapter for Armstrong.”
