The Entwistle Company Acquires The Hales Group To Expand Defense And Infrastructure

The Entwistle Company, a designer and manufacturer of components and machinery systems for the U.S. military, has acquired The Hales Group from its founders, Ray and Trudy Hales. Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition marks Entwistle’s first since its ownership transition in 2020 and expands its manufacturing capacity for large-scale defense and infrastructure programs.

Headquartered in Clayton, North Carolina, Hales has supported Newport News Shipbuilding and U.S. Navy programs including submarines and aircraft carriers since its founding in 1981. The company provides structural steel fabrication, protective coatings, and specialized logistics services for Department of Transportation infrastructure projects across the eastern United States. Hales operates more than 255,000 square feet of combined fabrication and coatings facilities across North Carolina. Following the acquisition, Hales will operate as a standalone subsidiary of Entwistle with its existing management team continuing to lead the business.
