Thesis has acquired 3D Technologies, a longtime implementation and consulting partner for its Thesis Elements student information system. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition brings 3D Technologies’ implementation team directly into Thesis Elements. The combined organization will manage strategy, product development, implementation, training, customer success and support through a unified operating structure.
Thesis and 3D Technologies have worked together since 2005 to help colleges and universities implement Thesis Elements and its predecessor platform. Bringing the teams together is intended to reduce coordination challenges and create a more consistent experience throughout the customer relationship.
A student information system, or SIS, is a software platform used by colleges and universities to manage student records, enrollment, financial aid, academic information, reporting and other administrative functions. Replacing or modernizing an SIS can be a complex project because the platform must connect with multiple campus systems and support regulatory requirements.
Thesis Elements is a cloud-based, AI-enabled SIS designed for small and midsized higher education institutions. Its capabilities include student administration, financial aid processing, federal and state reporting, and integrations with learning management, customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning systems.
By acquiring 3D Technologies, Thesis Elements will be able to provide customers with an integrated team beginning with the sales and planning process. That same organization will remain involved through implementation, training, product adoption and ongoing support.
3D Technologies brings expertise in systems integration, custom programming and financial aid consulting. The Texas-based company also provides hosting and disaster recovery services for Thesis Elements and the CAMS Enterprise product suite.
The combination is expected to help Thesis Elements use feedback from implementation projects to guide product development. Insights from colleges and universities deploying the software can be incorporated more directly into future features and operating processes.
Thesis said the two companies have recently completed several successful system launches for small and midsized institutions. The acquisition is intended to improve the consistency of those projects and give customers greater confidence that implementations can be completed smoothly and on schedule.
Thesis Elements reports an average implementation period of less than 12 months. The platform is designed to simplify institutional operations, improve access to student data and provide more self-service tools for students.
The acquisition also supports Thesis Elements’ effort to reduce the uncertainty and complexity associated with replacing older campus technology. By combining its product and service teams, the company plans to offer institutions a single point of accountability across the implementation lifecycle.
