Thompson Hine announced it is launching a Silicon Valley office anchored by the addition of lawyers and staff from intellectual property litigation boutique Turner Boyd Seraphine, a move designed to deepen the firm’s national Intellectual Property & Technology Litigation group. The firm said the expansion adds trial experience, technical depth, and broader national capabilities in complex IP and technology disputes, following Thompson Hine’s recent office openings in Los Angeles (July 2024) and Minneapolis (March 2025).
The combined team brings experience across patent, trade secret, trademark, and copyright litigation, with Thompson Hine highlighting the incoming lawyers’ scientific and engineering credentials—including Ph.D.-level expertise and degrees spanning physics, biophysics, molecular biology, chemistry, electrical and mechanical engineering, materials engineering, bioengineering/biomedical engineering, computer science, and applied mathematics. The firm said the expanded group has litigated in major IP venues including the Northern District of California, the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, the District of Delaware, and the Federal Circuit, with additional experience before the PTAB and ITC.
Jennifer Seraphine will serve as Silicon Valley office partner in charge. Thompson Hine said the combined, trial-focused IP and technology litigation bench will total about 35 lawyers and enable “right-sized” staffing across venues and technologies. Turner Boyd Seraphine is cited as being nationally ranked in the 2026 edition of Best Law Firms in IP-related litigation and patent categories, including Tier 1 rankings in the San Francisco Metro area. Transaction terms were not disclosed.
