Throne Science has raised $10 million in Series A funding to expand its team and advance research and development for its smart toilet sensor, which tracks digestive health, hydration, and urinary patterns. The round was led by Will Ventures, with participation from Emerson Collective, Workshop, LEAD VC, Salt VC, Accomplice, Moxxie, Ventures Together, Symphony, Felix Capital, Cosmic Venture Partners, Offscript, V1.VC and Morrison Seger.
Founded in 2023, Throne launched its consumer product in March 2026. The sensor attaches to a standard toilet and uses computer vision and AI to evaluate bathroom habits over time.
The accompanying application presents patterns related to gut health, hydration and urinary function. Throne describes the information as accessible observations rather than clinical readings.
The company is targeting everyday consumers as well as people managing digestive conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome. Throne cited estimates indicating that between 25 million and 45 million Americans live with IBS.
In July, the company launched a beta version of its Gut Health AI coach. Users can ask questions about information collected by the device and receive personalized feedback.
Throne plans to use the financing to hire additional employees and develop the next generation of its sensor.
The founders’ longer-term goal is to explore whether continuously collected data could help identify early signs of colorectal cancer, urinary tract cancers and other serious conditions.
The current product is not described as a cancer screening or diagnostic device, and achieving that objective would require research, clinical validation and applicable regulatory clearances.
Throne’s strategy is based on establishing an individual’s baseline and identifying meaningful changes over time. The company believes that passive data collection could reveal trends that are difficult to capture through occasional medical visits or self-reporting.
The company has added several executives with backgrounds in consumer wearables and health technology. Ben Grynol joined as Vice President of Growth after serving as Head of Growth at Levels Health.
David Strasfeld, Ph.D., joined as Senior Vice President of Research and Development. He previously served as Vice President of Research and Innovation at Lumicell and co-founded Precision Healing.
Physician and health educator Dr. Karan Rajan joined as Chief of Science. Throne was co-founded by John Capodilupo, the former Chief Technology Officer of WHOOP.
Gastroenterology and colorectal cancer specialists Dr. Fola May and Dr. Aasma Shaukat also joined the company’s advisory group.
