TidalSense Raises £19 Million To Accelerate COPD Diagnostic Technology

TidalSense announced it has raised £19 million to accelerate the company’s team, technology, and its ability to bring N-Tidal Diagnose, its diagnostic test for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, to more patients.  The round was backed by Cross-Border Impact Ventures, BGF, Airstream Capital, and Foresight Group, a group of investors spanning healthcare-focused and growth-stage capital providers.

TidalSense said the raise reflects more than a decade of work by its team and marks a step in its broader mission to transform respiratory diagnostics beyond COPD, signaling ambitions to eventually apply its underlying technology to other respiratory conditions as the company grows.

The company said the test is already diagnosing patients across the NHS in as little as five minutes, without requiring the forced breathing maneuvers used by existing diagnostic tools, which the company said have not changed in 180 years.

The current standard for diagnosing COPD relies on spirometry, a technique that requires patients to forcefully exhale into a device, a maneuver that can be physically difficult for patients with severe respiratory symptoms and prone to producing unreliable results if performed incorrectly. TidalSense’s N-Tidal Diagnose is designed to remove that barrier entirely, allowing patients to breathe normally during testing while still delivering a diagnosis in minutes.

The company noted that this approach is a meaningful departure from a diagnostic method that has remained largely unchanged for nearly two centuries, arguing that faster, easier testing could help identify more COPD cases earlier, when treatment tends to be more effective.

The funding will support TidalSense’s commercialization efforts across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, as well as its expansion into the United States, marking a significant step in the company’s push to scale beyond its existing NHS deployments into new healthcare systems and regulatory environments.
