Tide Rock Expands High-Reliability Manufacturing Platform With Electro-Spec Acquisition

Tide Rock has acquired Electro-Spec, a specialty plating and surface-finishing company with facilities in Indiana and South Carolina, to launch a new specialty surface-finishing platform focused on high-reliability applications.

Electro-Spec provides advanced electroplating, passivation, and metallurgical analysis services for original equipment manufacturers and precision machining companies. Its customers operate across aerospace, defense, medical, telecommunications, nuclear, battery, and other industrial markets where components must meet demanding performance and regulatory requirements.

The company operates facilities in Franklin, Indiana, and Lexington, South Carolina, and maintains certifications including NADCAP, AS9100, and ITAR-related compliance capabilities. Electro-Spec uses automated and semi-automated PLC-controlled plating lines along with metallurgical testing systems designed to provide precision, repeatability, and traceability.

Its technical capabilities include selective gold plating, electroless nickel plating, passivation, and micro-miniature SBE plating. Electro-Spec works closely with customer engineering and quality teams to address issues involving corrosion resistance, wear, conductivity, and other performance requirements in mission-critical components.

Tide Rock said the acquisition creates a specialty surface finishing platform that complements its existing metal machining businesses. The company plans to build on Electro-Spec’s technical expertise, customer relationships, and established presence in regulated end markets as it expands the platform.

Electro-Spec has operated for more than 60 years, while President Jeff Smith has led the business through substantial growth over the past 32 years. During that period, the company expanded from a smaller operation into a multi-site business serving customers globally.

Tide Rock operates as a growth platform for lower-middle-market B2B companies, primarily across manufacturing, distribution, and services. The firm focuses on acquiring businesses with established cash flow and supporting their expansion through operational and strategic investment.

The addition of Electro-Spec gives Tide Rock specialized surface treatment capabilities that can support its broader manufacturing portfolio while providing exposure to multiple high-reliability markets.

“Building and growing Electro-Spec over the last 32 years has been the journey of a lifetime. What began as a small operation has grown into a thriving multi-site company with customers all over the world. This happened because of the dedication of our incredible employees and the trust of our loyal customers. As I looked toward the future and our next chapter, finding the right home for Electro-Spec was my highest priority. I chose to partner with Tide Rock because of their unique approach to investing and growing businesses such as ours. Our growth has always been driven by two forces: the relentless innovation of our team and our absolute commitment to the high-reliability needs of our global customers. As I planned for the company’s next phase of growth, finding a partner who respected that legacy and the value of innovation was paramount in our decision. We wanted that story to continue, and while one chapter of our history is finished, a new one is just beginning.”
