TieTechnology is a premier telecommunications company that provides businesses with cloud solutions, managed IT services, and custom VoIP phone systems tailored to integrate with major CRM platforms. Pulse 2.0 interviewed TieTechnology co-founder and CEO Jim Eckes to learn more.

Jim Eckes’ Background

Jim Eckes

Could you tell me more about your background? Eckes said:

I come from a sales-driven background, starting my career as a stockbroker in a high-pressure, performance-based environment. That experience shaped how I think about accountability, responsiveness, and communication. I later transitioned into the telecom industry, where I quickly noticed how rare it was for customers to get timely follow-ups or real support. I built long-term relationships by being accessible, responsive, and genuinely focused on helping customers solve problems. That customer-first mindset ultimately became the foundation for TieTechnology.

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Eckes shared:

TieTechnology grew out of firsthand experience seeing a major gap in the telecom industry—specifically the disconnect between service delivery and customer support. Early on, we operated as an agent and VAR, helping businesses source internet and voice services while coordinating installations. Over time, it became clear that customers were consistently underserved once deals were signed. We built TieTechnology to vertically integrate service, support, and integration so customers would finally have a true partner instead of just another provider.

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Eckes reflected:

One standout moment involved a large medical organization with more than 150 locations. They were struggling to integrate their in-house CRM with their phone system, something their provider couldn’t solve. Our team completed the integration in just a few hours, then helped roll it out company-wide. That agility and problem-solving directly led to us earning their long-term trust and supporting their future acquisitions. It perfectly reflects what TieTechnology is built to do—move fast, stay flexible, and put customers first.

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Eckes explained:

At the core, we provide Voice over IP phone systems, but our real differentiators are integration and customer support. We focus on deeply integrating voice systems into customers’ existing workflows and CRMs while delivering hands-on, highly responsive support. Our business has grown almost entirely through referrals, and over more than a decade we’ve retained nearly all customers who didn’t exit due to business closures.

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Eckes acknowledged:

One of the biggest challenges is overcoming customer skepticism. The telecom industry has conditioned businesses to expect poor service and impersonal support. We address this by consistently proving that we operate as a true partner. Over time, customers see that they’re heard, supported, and valued—and that’s why our churn is exceptionally low.

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Eckes noted:

We started by simply helping customers secure phone service. As our customers scaled, our technology and expectations scaled with them. Today, we focus heavily on integration and data—turning phone systems into meaningful sources of business intelligence. As part of this effort, we developed our own proprietary softphone, the Jeannie, which turns phones from a simple “hello/goodbye tool into an ROI tool. This evolution allows customers to make better decisions about operations, marketing, and customer engagement.

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Eckes cited:

Key milestones include supporting multi-thousand-location deployments, building the Jeannie, and successfully handling time-sensitive, high-risk transitions where other providers couldn’t deliver. Each milestone reinforced our ability to scale alongside customers without sacrificing service quality.

Customer Success Stories

Can you share any specific customer success stories? Eckes highlighted:

One notable example involved a top-50 U.S. plastic surgery group facing an imminent shutdown due to copper line decommissioning. We implemented and trained 50 users, ported all numbers, and fully deployed their system in just four days. They were operational the following Monday and have remained a customer for six years. We’ve delivered similar outcomes for law firms, medical providers, and disaster-impacted businesses when reliability mattered most.

Funding/Revenue

Are you able to discuss funding and/or revenue metrics? Eckes revealed:

TieTechnology has grown consistently at a 30–40% annual rate while remaining privately funded. Our focus has been on sustainable growth that preserves service quality, rather than rapid expansion that compromises customer experience. We continue to invest in training, support, and product innovation to maintain that balance.

Total Addressable Market (TAM)

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Eckes assessed:

We primarily target the SMB and mid-market VoIP segment, which represents a massive and growing opportunity. As businesses continue migrating away from legacy telecom infrastructure, demand for reliable, service-oriented providers continues to rise. Given widespread dissatisfaction with incumbent providers, we believe a meaningful share of this market is actively looking for alternatives like TieTechnology.

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Eckes affirmed:

Our differentiation comes down to three things: customer support, scalability, and focus. Everything we build—from software to AI-driven capabilities—is designed with the customer in mind. We scale with customers on their timeline, not ours, and we prioritize long-term relationships over short-term gains.

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Eckes concluded:

Our primary goal is to remain deeply customer-centric as we grow into new markets that are underserved by traditional telecom providers. We aim to become a trusted, recognizable name in the VoIP space—not just as a technology provider, but as a partner that delivers insight, integration, and exceptional service beyond basic phone functionality.
