Toast Launches Toast Fuel To Unite Fuel Payments, Retail, And Foodservice For Convenience Stores

Toast has launched Toast Fuel, a new set of capabilities for fuel operators and convenience stores that brings fuel payments, in-store retail, and foodservice onto a single cloud-native platform. Operators can manage fuel transactions at the pump and in-store alongside retail and restaurant-style operations through Toast’s platform.

Convenience stores account for an estimated 80% of fuel purchased by consumers in the United States, according to data cited by Toast from the National Association of Convenience Stores. Many operators still manage fuel and in-store retail through separate systems, even as convenience stores increasingly add made-to-order food, digital ordering, and loyalty programs that make their operations resemble quick-service restaurants.

Toast Fuel extends Toast’s cloud-native platform to the forecourt, letting operators manage fuel, retail, payments, foodservice, marketing, inventory, and employee operations in one system.

The platform gives cashiers a dedicated forecourt interface and a real-time pump dashboard, including tools to authorize or stop pumps. It also supports fuel-specific transactions such as cash and card prepayments, Rest in Gas, and Move Prepay, along with EMV-certified dispenser payments and fleet-card acceptance.

Toast Fuel also includes an offline mode designed to keep pump and in-store transactions running when the internet goes down.

Operators can ring up fuel alongside everything from coffee and grab-and-go merchandise to made-to-order meals on the same screen. Stores with larger food programs can also use Toast’s restaurant technology, including kitchen display systems, digital menus, online ordering, delivery, drive-thru capabilities, and handheld devices. Toast said its technology currently serves approximately 180,000 customer locations.

The platform connects information from the fuel pump, point-of-sale system, checkout, kitchen, and online ordering through Toast Web, reducing the need for operators to rely on separate third-party back-office systems.

Toast is also incorporating artificial intelligence through ToastIQ, its conversational AI assistant. ToastIQ can analyze a convenience store operator’s data across fuel, retail, and foodservice, allowing managers to ask natural-language questions about fuel margins, in-store margins by SKU, and inventory levels.

For customer acquisition and retention, ToastIQ Grow brings Toast’s marketing capabilities to convenience stores, supporting advertising, email, and SMS campaigns around meal offers and drink promotions. Operators can combine these capabilities with loyalty programs, gift cards, and foodservice without adding another vendor.

Toast is partnering with OWL Services to provide on-site installation and servicing for fuel equipment. Toast’s support package also includes dedicated onboarding, employee training, installation and go-live assistance, and 24/7/365 support for fuel and point-of-sale operations.

Toast Fuel is initially available to unbranded, independent fuel and convenience store operators in the United States through an integration with Allied Electronics’ NeXGen PRIME forecourt controller. Toast plans to add additional dispenser and payment capabilities later in 2026. Toast also plans to demonstrate the product at the NACS Show in Las Vegas from October 6 through October 9, 2026.

KEY QUOTES:

“Foodservice and retail are blurring together, and the convenience store offers one of the clearest examples of this trend: the customer expects to buy gas, a coffee, and groceries in one stop. Toast Fuel unifies that entire experience on a single platform. We’re bringing the same innovation powering the country’s best restaurants and retailers to c-store operators, giving them the modern tools they’ve long deserved so they can focus on delivering great customer experiences rather than managing their tech.”

Omri Traub, Chief Operating Officer of Retail at Toast

“For us, the greatest value of Toast is the general ease-of-use and how it’s helping us to be more efficient all across the board. We use the POS to make our transactions more connected from the pump to the counter. The robust reporting and ToastIQ also helps me to identify best sellers and better manage inventory. Having one system that connects our fuel, deli, and store operations is a huge advantage.”
