Toyota Motor North America is investing $3.6 billion to expand its San Antonio manufacturing campus, add a second vehicle assembly line and create 2,000 jobs. The expansion will support production of the Toyota Tacoma alongside the Tundra and Sequoia, which are already assembled at the Texas facility.

Toyota plans to add approximately 2.5 million square feet to the campus, doubling the size of Toyota Texas by 2030.

The automaker will transition Tacoma production from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Baja California in Mexico to the expanded San Antonio plant over an approximately four-year period.

The project will increase Toyota’s total investment in San Antonio to $8.3 billion since the company broke ground on the plant in 2003.

Toyota selected the San Antonio campus for the expansion following a competitive process. The project is being supported by the Texas Enterprise Fund and the Jobs, Energy, Technology and Innovation program.

The new assembly line will be built on Toyota’s existing San Antonio property, which covers approximately 2,000 acres.

Toyota said the site was originally selected in part because it provided sufficient space to scale production in response to future vehicle demand.

The campus currently includes one vehicle assembly line and a new rear axle plant that is nearing startup.

Production at the rear axle facility is expected to begin during the fall of 2026.

The San Antonio plant is currently the exclusive production location for the Tundra full-size pickup truck and Sequoia sport utility vehicle. Both models are assembled on the same production line.

Adding the Tacoma will expand the plant’s truck and SUV manufacturing operations while providing Toyota with additional production flexibility.

The Tacoma is a midsize pickup truck and one of Toyota’s core truck models in North America.

Toyota said the new facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies and align with the company’s broader North American production network.

The company expects the San Antonio workforce to increase to approximately 6,000 employees following the expansion.

Toyota Texas is also supported by 23 suppliers operating on the campus and their employees.

The facility assembled more than 197,000 vehicles during 2025.

Toyota said the investment reflects its confidence in the North American workforce and the region’s long-term manufacturing potential.

The company also reiterated its commitment to operations across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Toyota encouraged a quick resolution of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement review process to help maintain the global competitiveness of North American manufacturing.

The San Antonio expansion represents Toyota Texas’ second major investment milestone in two years.

State and local officials said the project is expected to generate additional economic activity across San Antonio and Bexar County while providing new manufacturing career opportunities.

The investment also further establishes the San Antonio campus as a central part of Toyota’s North American truck and SUV production network.
