Tractor Supply Company announced the acquisition of the veterinary services business of VIP Petcare from PetIQ, a Bansk Group company. The deal expands Tractor Supply’s pet healthcare platform by bringing the nation’s largest provider of mobile veterinary care under its ownership, strengthening the company’s ability to offer affordable and convenient veterinary services to customers across rural and exurban markets.
Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Eagle, Idaho, VIP Petcare operates under the VIP Petcare and PetVet brands and provides community-based veterinary services through approximately 2,700 retail locations across 39 states, including 1,700 Tractor Supply stores. The company hosts more than 60,000 community veterinary clinics annually and serves more than one million pets each year through a network of approximately 2,500 contracted veterinarians and 36 field offices.
The acquisition enhances Tractor Supply’s growing pet care ecosystem, which already includes Petsense by Tractor Supply and Allivet, its online pet and animal pharmacy. By integrating VIP Petcare’s veterinary clinics and telehealth capabilities with Allivet’s pharmacy services and Tractor Supply’s retail footprint, the company aims to create a seamless omnichannel pet care offering.
According to Tractor Supply, the transaction supports several strategic objectives, including expanding access to veterinary care in underserved communities, increasing customer engagement through its Neighbor’s Club loyalty program, and creating new opportunities for long-term growth through integrated pet care services. The company also highlighted the asset-light nature of VIP Petcare’s operating model and the potential to increase customer lifetime value through a more comprehensive suite of pet health offerings.
VIP Petcare’s community clinics provide preventive veterinary services such as vaccinations, diagnostic testing, flea, tick and heartworm prevention, deworming, microchipping and nail trimming. The company states that these services are typically offered at prices more than 50% lower than a traditional veterinary visit.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
