Trafalgar has launched TRF Casa de Bolsa and appointed Carlos Septién Michel as Chief Executive Officer of the broader Trafalgar Group as the Mexican financial services company expands its banking, brokerage and cross-border payments platform.
TRF Casa de Bolsa will focus in part on simplified equity and debt issuances intended to improve capital markets access for Mexican middle-market companies.
The brokerage is being built around the simplified securities registration regime established through Mexico’s 2023 Securities Law reform.
Under that structure, BIVA reviews an issuer’s filing and provides a favorable listing opinion before registration, potentially reducing the time and cost required for middle-market businesses to access capital markets.
Securities issued through the simplified framework can be placed with institutional and qualified investors.
TRF Casa de Bolsa resulted from Trafalgar’s acquisition of an existing brokerage. Mexican regulators subsequently authorized the change of control and corporate name.
Septién Michel will oversee the Trafalgar Group, including the securities brokerage and its SOFIPO challenger bank operation.
He brings more than 45 years of executive experience, including approximately three decades serving as a CEO or vice president across financial services and healthcare.
Trafalgar’s integrated offering includes Mexican and international equities and debt execution, ETFs, government and corporate debt, underwriting, investment funds and trust structures.
Trafalgar SOFIPO provides deposits, payments, treasury and credit solutions, while Trafalgar Pay focuses on cross-border payments and remittances between Mexico and the U.S.
The group is also preparing for further geographic expansion.
Through Trafalgar Asset Management, it has acquired control of a U.S.-listed reporting issuer that it intends to rename Trafalgar International and reposition as a financial services platform supporting growth across the U.S. and Latin America.
Trafalgar’s stated long-term objective is to become publicly traded in both the U.S. and Mexico, subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions.
KEY QUOTES:
“Our priority is to bring the Mexican mid-market to BIVA through simplified securities registration process. What we are announcing is not a license; it is a platform.”
Porfirio Sánchez Talavera, Chairman Of Trafalgar
“The simplified listings at BIVA, the liquidity through the SOFIPO and market access through the brokerage will empower us to continue delivering meaningful results for our clients.”
Carlos Septién Michel, CEO Of Trafalgar Group
