Travers Smith has hired Andy Moody as a partner in its Dispute Resolution practice, adding an international arbitration specialist who previously served as Global Chair of International Arbitration and London Head of Dispute Resolution at Baker McKenzie.
Moody will focus on arbitration mandates as part of the Travers Smith disputes team led by partner Heather Gagen.
His practice spans international commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration and English High Court disputes.
Moody has significant experience handling disputes in the energy sector, along with matters involving infrastructure, healthcare, industrials and transportation.
His work has also included complex disputes arising from mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.
Travers Smith said Moody has served as lead counsel in major “bet the company” arbitrations, including high-value disputes involving global corporations and investor claims against governments.
He also regularly works alongside corporate lawyers on disputes connected with transactions.
Beyond his client work, Moody has held leadership positions within the international arbitration community and has established a profile in both the London and international markets.
The appointment expands a Travers Smith disputes practice handling matters across commercial litigation, arbitration, regulatory investigations and other complex proceedings.
Current matters cited by the firm include advising Olympique Lyonnais in litigation involving a disputed player-transfer receivable, representing shipbuilder Fincantieri in litigation connected with propulsion failures aboard the Carnival Panorama and acting for Dnata Catering UK in a dispute involving American Airlines.
The firm has also represented clients in proceedings before major arbitral institutions including the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the London Court of International Arbitration.
Moody’s arrival follows Travers Smith’s recent addition of employment partner Andrew Howard and comes as the firm continues investing in senior talent following what management described as a strong financial year.
