Triplebyte Raises $35 Million To Connect Engineers With Jobs

Triplebyte, a San Francisco-based service that connects jobs with engineers, announced it has raised $35 million. This round of funding was led by led by YC Continuity — which is Y Combinators investment fund for supporting alumni companies. Brian Singerman (of The Founder’s Fund), Caffeinated Capital, and Initialized Capital also participated in this round.

Including this round, Triplebyte has raised $48.1 million. Y Combinator partner and former Twitter COO Ali Rowghani is joining Triplebyte’s board in conjunction with this round.

To determine the skill level of the engineers, Triplebyte uses coding quizzes and machine learning. Over the past year, Triplebyte saw its revenue grow three times to over $1 million monthly. And the company’s headcount doubled from 20 to 40 people.

Triplebyte CEO and cofounder Harj Taggar said that this funding round will be used for expanding beyond Bay Area of California. The plan is to head to Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Boston later this year.

“(My cofounders and I started) Triplebyte to solve the problem that every company now has to build their own software and they need to find engineers to do it,” said Taggar via VentureBeat. “There’s not enough engineers graduating from traditionally well-known colleges to meet this demands, but those are the only places companies know to look for talent. The solution is creating a new credential that companies can use to find engineers from any background.”

Ammon Bartram and Guillaume Luccisano (CTO) are also co-founders of Triplebyte. Bartram and Luccisano were both co-founders of Socialcam — which was acquired by Autodesk for $60 million. What inspired Bartram and Luccisano to both become involved in Triplebyte is that they both personally experienced employer discrimination. Even though they had technical skills, they had to find companies willing to hire engineers with nontechnical education after moving to Silicon Valley. Bartram was homeschooled and attended a small college. And studied French at a technical school.

Triplebyte’s customers include Adobe, Apple, American Express, Blackrock, Box, Dropbox, Evernote, Instacart, Reddit, Robinhood, Truecar, Uber, and Philz Coffee. In total, Triplebyte has over 500 clients — which have hired over 1,000 engineers through the platform.
