Tucows has announced that its indirect wholly owned subsidiary, Ting Fiber, has entered into agreements to transfer its dark fiber network lease in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The deal represents another development in Tucows’ ongoing strategic review of its Ting internet infrastructure business.
The network lease transfer is expected to close on March 31, 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. Tucows also expects its related parent guaranty to terminate by the end of April 2027, following completion of the transfer and satisfaction of certain obligations.
Ting will continue serving existing Colorado Springs customers throughout the transition period, which is expected to conclude no later than June 30, 2027.
The company said customers do not need to take any immediate action and will receive direct notifications before changes to their service arrangements.
The planned exit concerns Ting’s dark fiber network lease in Colorado Springs. Dark fiber refers to fiber-optic infrastructure that can be leased to network operators, allowing them to provide telecommunications services using existing physical network assets.
By transferring the lease, Ting is taking steps to change its operating commitments in the market as Tucows evaluates the future direction of its fiber infrastructure business.
The announcement reflects Tucows’ broader strategy of managing a diversified portfolio of internet infrastructure and communications technology businesses.
In addition to Ting, the company operates Tucows Domains, Hover, and Wavelo.
Tucows Domains manages more than 21 million domain names and offers related services through a global reseller network of approximately 32,000 web hosting providers and internet service providers.
Hover provides domain name registration and email services for individuals and small businesses, while Wavelo develops telecommunications software that helps service providers manage network access, provisioning, billing, subscriptions, and related operations.
Ting focuses on fixed fiber internet access, offering broadband services and customer support in its operating markets.
The company has been evaluating strategic options for Ting as part of its efforts to manage capital requirements and determine the appropriate structure for its fiber operations.
The Colorado Springs agreement establishes a timetable for transitioning customers and transferring the relevant network lease while maintaining continuity of service during the process.
Tucows said additional transaction information is available in its Current Report on Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
KEY QUOTES:
“Our priority throughout this process is our Colorado Springs customers and Ting will continue to provide the same service and support through the transition. The move also aligns with Tucows’ ongoing strategic process for Ting.”
