Turing is a company that connects world-class engineers with companies to help them achieve their respective career and business goals. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Turing Senior Director of Engineering Yuzhao Ni to learn more.
Yuzhao Ni’s Background
Ni holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as Mathematics from the National University of Singapore. Additionally, Ni has a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
“I have certifications in structuring machine learning projects, improving neural networks, and neural networks in deep learning. My professional journey began as a Research Engineer at the National University of Singapore, followed by a research assistant role at the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT. I also gained experience through software engineering internships at Leaf Your Life and Dataminr. Afterward, I briefly worked at Oracle before joining Google, where I served as an Engineering Lead for over six years. In 2021, I joined Turing as the Senior Director of Engineering,” said Ni.
Core Products
What are Turing’s core products and features? Founded in 2018, Turing has introduced the “Talent Cloud,” which provides highly vetted software developers.
“Our AI-powered vetting and matching technology have evaluated approximately two million developers, with over 50,000 passing our rigorous technical exams and interviews to achieve “vetted” status. Our software combines around 20,000 machine-learning signals with comprehensive testing to create detailed developer profiles,” Ni explained. “This algorithm accurately predicts the probability of success in a role and matches remote developers and teams worldwide with companies in need. Turing is an AI-powered tech company that offers a new service model to enterprises aiming to accelerate their tech innovation and product development cycles. We continuously evolve our vetting process and strive to enable developers to thrive in an AI-assisted software development model.”
Evolution Of Turing’s Technology
How has Turing’s technology evolved since launching? “Initially, we provided staff augmentation solutions to enterprises. However, in 2022, Turing’s technology evolved to offer complete tech teams for specific projects. Most recently, we introduced our Services Model, a software development methodology tailored to the demands of today’s highly competitive business environment. Our development teams are sourced, vetted, and matched by software. We also utilize software to efficiently manage engagements between developers and companies. Turing now offers technology consulting services that encompass AI, cloud computing, and application engineering, setting new standards in the industry. We operate on an Imagine-Deliver-Run (IDR) framework, providing end-to-end solutions for complex technology projects,” Ni shared. “More recently, we launched transformative AI-focused initiatives aimed at accelerating the growth and productivity of software developers globally. These initiatives include AI Advisory Services, providing guidance on leveraging generative AI and advanced technologies; the AI Transformation Accelerator, helping clients define AI-driven solutions and establish implementation roadmaps; AI-Accelerated Software Development, revolutionizing development processes with GPT-powered workflows; and a Tech Talk Series to empower developers in AI-accelerated development. These offerings reflect Turing’s commitment to harnessing the power of AI and revolutionizing software development approaches.”
Differentiation From The Competition
What differentiates Turing from the competition? “Turing’s rigorous vetting process is a significant differentiator. All Turing engineers undergo over 5 hours of technical vetting tests and interviews before their profiles are presented to clients. Unlike traditional processes that rely on self-reported experience, our tests are designed to select the top 1% of remote developers based on their actual applicable skills. We combine the power of AI-powered talent vetting with world-class consultative services from industry experts,” Ni commented. “Additionally, Turing offers effective collaboration tools such as automatic time tracking, virtual daily stand-ups, and time zone management. We prioritize long-term, full-time remote jobs to help developers build their careers.”
Setting Up Data Analysis For Recruiting
Upon asking Ni to discuss setting up data analysis for recruiting, he pointed out that it involves the leveraging of Turing’s software, which employs deep learning algorithms to make predictions.
“The software utilizes data collected during the testing process and analyzes over 20,000 individual machine-learning signals,” Ni assessed. “This comprehensive analysis enables the software to accurately determine whether a candidate is suitable for a specific role with an increasingly high level of accuracy.”
Benefits Hiring Managers Notice With AI-Powered Platform
What are some of the benefits that hiring managers should see when utilizing an AI-powered platform for matching clients with remote engineers? “Hiring managers who effectively utilize an AI-powered platform for matching clients with remote engineers can experience several benefits. Firstly, they gain better controls for productivity, security, and compliance, ensuring smoother operations. Secondly, these platforms enable faster and more in-depth talent vetting, allowing managers to make well-informed hiring decisions quickly and efficiently,” Ni affirmed. “Lastly, by leveraging AI, hiring managers can access a much wider talent pool, expanding their options and finding the most suitable candidates. Ultimately, utilizing an AI-powered platform allows hiring managers to optimize their recruitment processes for a software-first, remote-first world.”
Future Company Goals
What are some of Turing’s future company goals? “Our goal is to assist every Fortune 500 company in becoming a true AI-powered company capable of running efficiently in a remote-first, software-first world. With budget constraints, cutbacks, and a shortage of highly qualified engineering talent, many companies struggle to keep up with technology innovation demands,” Ni concluded. “Turing aims to provide a blend of human excellence amplified by artificial intelligence, enabling developers to work alongside AI and solve increasingly complex problems more efficiently. This approach will result in increased productivity, faster turnaround times, and improved cost-efficiency for our clients.”
