- Twitter announced it is buying Chroma Labs, a seven-person company that developed a photo and video editing app
Twitter is buying Chroma Labs, a seven-person company that developed a photo and video editing app. Chroma Labs was founded by former Facebook and Instagram employees.
According to Bloomberg, Chroma Labs launched last year with an app that enables users to edit photos and videos before sharing them on the Stories feature that is popular on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Twitter does not have a Stories feature as of yet.
“They’ll join our product, design, and eng teams working to give people more creative ways to express themselves on Twitter,” said Twitter head of product Kayvon Beykpour in a tweet.
Chroma Labs was founded by John Barnett, Alex Li, and Joshua Harris. And they all worked on products at Facebook before launching Chroma Labs. Between the 3 founders, they worked on projects like Instagram Stories, augmented reality effects, and Oculus virtual reality devices.
Prior to the acquisition, Chroma Labs raised funding from Index Ventures, Sweet Capital and Combine VC.
