Uber, the world’s leading mobility and delivery platform, has unveiled a new set of products and features at its annual GO-GET product event, including hotel bookings, Travel Mode, and several new in-app tools designed to consolidate more of daily life into a single platform.
The centerpiece of the announcement is a partnership with Expedia Group that allows Uber customers in the U.S. to book hotels directly in the Uber app, with access to more than 700,000 properties globally. Uber One members will earn 10% back in credits on all hotel bookings and save at least 20% on a rolling list of more than 10,000 hotels worldwide. Vacation rentals from Vrbo will be added later this year, and Uber rides will be integrated directly into the Expedia app beginning in June, with push notifications before hotel check-in dates offering discounted rides for the duration of a trip.
Additional features include Travel Mode, offering curated local recommendations, OpenTable reservations, and on-demand delivery to hotel rooms; Uber One International, allowing members to earn credits on rides globally; Shop for Me, enabling users to request items from any store including those not listed on the app; Eats for the Way, letting riders in select cities reserve a premium vehicle with a drink or snack on arrival; Voice Bookings, an AI-powered conversational assistant for hands-free ride booking; and One Search, a redesigned search bar surfacing results for rides, food, and items across the platform simultaneously.
KEY QUOTES:
Uber is becoming an app for everything — helping people go, get, and now travel all in one place. We’re all living through a moment of real cognitive overload: too many apps, too many decisions, too much noise. At the end of the day, our job is to help people reclaim their time, spending less of it managing the logistics of life and more of it actually living.
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO, Uber
Travel should feel effortless, and this partnership gets us one step closer to offering a seamless traveler experience. By connecting our two-sided marketplace with Uber, we’re bringing Uber rides directly into the Expedia app and Expedia Group’s lodging inventory into the Uber app through our Rapid API technology. Together, we’re helping travelers spend less time planning and more time enjoying the journey.
Ariane Gorin, CEO, Expedia Group
