Unicharm announced that it has agreed to acquire 100% of Nutrire Indústria de Alimentos Ltda., marking the company’s full-scale entry into Brazil, the world’s third-largest pet care market.

The acquisition aligns with Unicharm’s broader growth strategy under its 13th Mid-Term Management Plan, “Project-Renaissance” (2026–2030), which identifies wellness and pet care as major growth pillars for the company. Unicharm said Brazil’s pet care market is expected to grow by more than 10% annually, fueled by economic expansion and the increasing “pet humanization” trend.

Unicharm originally launched its pet care business in 1986 and has focused on providing products and services spanning nutrition and waste management. The company said these efforts are tied to its long-term vision of building a “Cohesive Society” where pets, owners, and non-owners can coexist harmoniously.

Founded in 2001, Nutrire manages the full pet food production process, including raw material selection, manufacturing, and sales. The company is known for its premium pet food offerings, advanced production technology, and export network across neighboring countries in Central and South America.

Unicharm said the acquisition will combine Nutrire’s production capabilities and regional infrastructure with Unicharm’s marketing expertise and research and development capabilities to expand the business throughout Central and South America.

Operating in more than 80 countries and regions, Unicharm provides products across baby care, feminine care, wellness care, and pet care categories under its corporate brand essence, “Love Your Possibilities.”
