The University of Houston received a $1 million gift from The Hamill Foundation to establish an endowed professorship focused on community care nursing.
The Hamill Foundation Endowed Professorship in Community Care Nursing will be housed in the Andy and Barbara Gessner College of Nursing.
The faculty position will support evidence-based healthcare, community-focused nursing education, research, and partnerships serving local populations.
The university said the initiative is intended to prepare nurses to address healthcare needs outside traditional hospital and clinical environments, particularly in underserved communities.
The gift is the largest single contribution the University of Houston has received from The Hamill Foundation.
The foundation has now provided more than $6 million across the university.
The Hamill Foundation was established in 1969 by Houston oilman Claud B. Hamill and Marie G. Hamill.
The new commitment also supports the university’s Can’t Stop Houston: The Centennial Campaign and the broader UH Health academic health enterprise.
