The University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) president Keith Whitfield wanted to do something unique in order to connect with as many students as possible. And so he created an AI-based digital version of himself.
The AI-based digital version of the president was introduced during the State of the University Address on February 1.
“I had this kind of grandiose desire to talk to every single student, and I think I said that and the whole room just got quiet and said, ‘he’s lost his mind,'” said president Whitfield via KNTV.
To make this happen, Whitfield recruited the AI Media Lab for $125,000. And Whitfield went to the studio for about eight hours to read information about the university and himself. Then the AI Media Lab used these recordings along with 3D images to create the digital version of Whitfield:
