US Signal Acquires Aurora, Illinois Data Center To Expand Edge Footprint And Deploy OpenCloud

US Signal has acquired a new data center in Aurora, Illinois, extending its presence in the Chicago-area market and advancing its strategy to build a distributed, edge-focused national data center platform.

The company said it will begin expanding capacity and deploying cloud and virtualization services immediately, positioning the site to support growing demand for colocation, connectivity, and private cloud options in one of the country’s largest technology hubs.

The Aurora facility will be integrated into US Signal’s broader infrastructure model, combining local proximity with national reach through fiber-connected assets and a network backbone designed for low-latency performance. US Signal said the site will support use cases including private and hybrid cloud virtualization, AI inference and latency-sensitive workloads, and enterprise and carrier colocation.

As part of its “day one” investment plan, US Signal said it will expand capacity to 4MW critical or 6MW commercial, while delivering its private cloud platform, OpenCloud, at scale in the market. The company also said the site will be connected via US Signal-owned fiber routes and will benefit from continued investments in ultra-dense fiber, conduit expansion, and in-line amplification sites intended to support scalable performance from edge to core.

The acquisition and planned buildout are supported by Igneo Infrastructure Partners, which US Signal said has committed more than $200 million to accelerate growth across data centers, fiber, and cloud infrastructure. US Signal said it plans to add enhancements to power, cloud capacity, and network density as part of its ongoing expansion roadmap in Illinois and other key markets.
