This Veterans Day, USAA announced the launch of “Honor Through Action,” a nationwide movement dedicated to providing sustained support for veterans and their families long after the annual holiday. The initiative represents a $500 million commitment over the next five years to drive measurable progress in meaningful careers, financial security, and overall well-being for the military community.
USAA, long recognized for its mission to serve those who serve, said the new program will unify public, private, and nonprofit partners to address key challenges that impact veterans and their families. The initiative will focus on career development, financial stability, and holistic well-being, aiming to transform gratitude into tangible action.
Through its career-focused efforts, USAA will help veterans and military spouses build resilient and lasting career paths. The company plans to leverage career navigation tools, employer partnerships, skills development, and community engagement programs. Data from the Department of War’s Transition Assistance Program indicates that fewer than one in five transitioning service members feel fully prepared for civilian employment, with average job tenure lasting less than a year. Additionally, Blue Star Families reports that the unemployment rate among military spouses remains four times higher than the civilian average.
The financial security component of Honor Through Action will enhance access to education, tools, and trusted advice designed to help families navigate the unique challenges of military life. Although the 2024 USAA Military Financial Well-Being Index highlights optimism within the community, many families continue to face significant financial pressures, reinforcing the need for strong financial habits and informed decision-making.
The third area of focus—well-being—builds on USAA’s Face the Fight® initiative to prevent veteran suicide while expanding programs that promote physical health, caregiver support, and community connection, as well as efforts to combat veteran homelessness.
In addition to these commitments, USAA will activate a national storytelling campaign to encourage veterans and civilians to share their experiences and foster a broader understanding of the realities of military life. The organization’s overarching goal is to inspire collective action and strengthen the support network for those who have served.
KEY QUOTES:
“For more than a century, USAA has advocated for those who serve. Honor Through Action reflects our shared responsibility to act and help the military community thrive in every aspect of life – personally, professionally and financially. Supporting those who serve is not just what we do – it is who we are. It is how we take care of our own.”
“This work is essential – not only for the military community, but for the health, strength and security of our nation. Meaningful careers empower financial security – and together, those create the foundation for overall well-being. We want USAA to lead by example and inspire others to act because taking care of those who serve is a shared responsibility.”
“The best way to celebrate veterans is to listen, act and invest in their future. That is exactly what we are doing by elevating their voices – not just today, but every day moving forward.”
Juan C. Andrade, President and CEO of USAA
