UST has completed its acquisition of a majority stake in Italdesign from the Audi Group, combining Italdesign’s automotive design and engineering capabilities with UST’s expertise in artificial intelligence, digital engineering, software-defined vehicles and technology transformation.
The transaction brings together two organizations focused on helping automakers develop increasingly connected, software-defined and AI-enabled vehicles.
UST said the combination is intended to help manufacturers address the growing complexity of next-generation mobility by connecting design, engineering, software and AI from concept through production.
Italdesign brings nearly 60 years of automotive design, vehicle engineering and product development experience.
The company has worked on some of the industry’s most recognizable vehicles and provides capabilities spanning concept design, engineering and limited and ultra-limited series production.
UST expects to combine those capabilities with its own expertise in AI, software-defined vehicles, digital engineering and digital ecosystem development.
The companies believe this combination can shorten the path from initial product concept to production while preserving the design and engineering capabilities that have historically differentiated Italdesign.
Italdesign will continue operating under the Italdesign name, maintaining its existing values, identity and multidisciplinary approach while gaining access to UST’s global scale, client relationships and technology capabilities.
The partnership comes as the automotive industry increasingly shifts toward vehicles whose features and functionality are defined through software and supported by connected digital systems.
UST and Italdesign see an opportunity to provide manufacturers with a more integrated development model that combines physical product design with digital engineering and artificial intelligence.
The companies also expect the partnership to support development of intelligent and connected products beyond conventional automotive applications.
Italdesign is headquartered in Moncalieri, Italy, near Turin, and employs more than 1,300 professionals across 10 international locations.
The company has completed more than 1,000 industrial design and transportation projects and is expanding into additional high-innovation sectors including aerospace and robotics.
UST has more than 30,000 employees across more than 30 countries and provides AI-driven digital solutions, engineering, research and development, proprietary platforms and technology transformation services.
The Italdesign investment gives UST a major physical design and product engineering platform that complements its software, AI and digital transformation capabilities.
