UST has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in automotive design and engineering company Italdesign from Audi Group, bringing together Italdesign’s automotive development capabilities with UST’s artificial intelligence, software and digital engineering operations. Financial terms of the transaction were not announced.
The combination is intended to create a broader platform for automakers developing software-defined, connected and AI-enabled vehicles.
Italdesign brings nearly six decades of experience in automotive design and engineering, while UST provides capabilities spanning artificial intelligence, automotive engineering, software-defined vehicles, digital ecosystems and technology transformation.
The companies plan to work together across the product-development lifecycle, from early vehicle concepts through engineering and production.
Italdesign will continue operating under its existing name and identity.
The transaction comes as automakers increasingly integrate software, artificial intelligence and connected technologies into vehicle platforms, requiring closer coordination between industrial design, engineering and digital development.
UST believes the combination can help automotive customers reduce the time required to move new products from concept to production while maintaining Italdesign’s design and engineering capabilities.
For Italdesign, UST provides additional global scale, AI capabilities, digital engineering resources and access to a larger international customer network.
UST has more than 30,000 employees across more than 30 countries and works with companies on AI-driven digital transformation, engineering, research and development, software platforms and other technology initiatives.
The investment expands UST’s exposure to the global automotive and mobility sector while giving it ownership of one of the industry’s best-known independent design and engineering brands.
