VB Spine To Buy SpineHawk Intraoperative Visualization Platform From Robotron Surgical Technologies

VB Spine said it has signed an agreement to acquire the SpineHawk platform from Robotron Surgical Technologies, a move the company says will expand its technology portfolio in spine surgery with intraoperative visualization and an AI-enabled software roadmap aimed at supporting technology-enabled spine care.

Under the deal, VB Spine will acquire assets tied to SpineHawk, including single-use visualization-enabled spinal instruments, software-enabled intraoperative image recognition technology, and related intellectual property. The platform was originated by Robotron as part of its broader work in AI-powered visualization and spinal endoscopy surgical systems.

VB Spine said SpineHawk is designed to integrate into established spine workflows and provide direct intraoperative visualization during key steps of a procedure. The company expects the initial commercial configuration to include visualization-enabled instruments paired with a high-definition camera console. The system is intended to be compatible with standard operating room monitors and to apply machine-learning-based image recognition to intraoperative video streams for real-time, contextual interpretation of spinal anatomy.

Beyond the initial hardware-and-instrument offering, VB Spine said future development phases are expected to focus on AI-enabled software capabilities, including image analysis designed to help surgeons identify relevant anatomical structures in the surgical field.

The platform is not currently available for sale. VB Spine said it expects to submit a 510(k) application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the first half of 2026, with any clearance timing subject to FDA review. The company said it is targeting sales in 2026 following FDA clearance.

As part of the transition, VB Spine will assume ownership of the acquired assets and intellectual property. Robotron will support VB Spine with a team of engineers intended to help expand SpineHawk and broaden VB Spine’s capabilities over time across workflow, software, and adjacent product categories.

VB Spine described itself as a large privately held spine company with a broad product portfolio and global distribution network. Robotron Surgical Technologies develops AI-driven robotics, imaging, and visualization platforms for spine and other surgical specialties and is a portfolio company of Siemionow BioMed Ventures.
