Vera Bradley: Coach Veteran Ian Bickley Appointed CEO

By Amit Chowdhry ● Mar 14, 2026

Vera Bradley has appointed Ian Bickley as chairman and chief executive officer, elevating the longtime retail executive after he previously served as the company’s executive chairman and helped push forward its ongoing transformation initiatives.

Bickley spent 24 years in leadership roles at Coach, where he held several senior positions including president of the brand’s international group. He also previously served as interim CEO of The Body Shop and sits on the boards of Crocs and Brilliant Earth.

The leadership change follows a period of restructuring at the company. In June 2025, Vera Bradley announced a series of management and board changes, including the departure of then-CEO Jacqueline Ardrey and the appointment of Bickley as executive chairman to guide the company through a CEO transition.

During that time, the company also hired Martin “Marty” Layding as chief financial officer, bringing experience from Tapestry’s Coach brand as well as multiple private equity-backed companies.

The leadership shift comes as Vera Bradley works to stabilize its business and reposition its brand through a broader turnaround effort known internally as “Project Sunshine.” The initiative focuses on sharpening the company’s brand identity, refining its go-to-market strategy, and improving its digital ecosystem.

The company said the strategy has already begun showing signs of progress. Vera Bradley reported operating income of $2.7 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, compared with a loss of $12.4 million during the same period a year earlier. Net income was also $2.7 million, improving from a nearly $47 million loss year over year.

Despite those improvements, the company continues to face revenue pressure. Net revenues declined 1.7% in the fourth quarter to $84.9 million, while annual revenue fell more than 15% to $269.7 million.

Looking ahead, Vera Bradley expects fiscal 2027 sales to range between $255 million and $270 million and anticipates an operating loss improvement of 40% or more as its transformation strategy continues.

Vera Bradley, headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, designs women’s handbags, luggage, travel accessories, fashion items, and gifts. The company sells products through its own retail stores, e-commerce sites, and approximately 1,200 specialty retail locations and department store partners across the United States.
