VersaBank has appointed Lawrence Chamberlain as Global Senior Vice President of Investor and Stakeholder Relations, effective immediately. Chamberlain joins the North American business-to-business digital bank after advising the company on investor relations matters for the past six years as a consultant.
In his new full-time executive role, Chamberlain will oversee VersaBank’s global investor and stakeholder engagement efforts as the company expands its U.S. banking operations and pursues opportunities involving digital assets.
VersaBank said Chamberlain has developed a detailed understanding of its business model, growth strategy and approach to creating shareholder value through his previous work with the company.
He has also established relationships with VersaBank’s analysts, institutional investors, board members and senior executives.
Chamberlain brings more than three decades of capital markets experience, primarily in investor relations and financial communications.
Over the course of his career, he has developed and executed investor relations programs for dozens of publicly traded companies across multiple industries and market capitalizations.
Most recently, Chamberlain was a partner at LodeRock Advisors, where he helped grow the business into a major Canadian investor relations and capital markets communications consultancy.
Before joining LodeRock, he held increasingly senior executive positions at several Canadian investor relations consulting firms.
Chamberlain also previously worked in-house as Manager of Investor Relations for a Toronto Stock Exchange-listed information technology company and several emerging technology businesses.
His appointment comes as VersaBank seeks to increase awareness of its branchless, digital banking model among investors and other capital markets stakeholders.
VersaBank is federally chartered in both Canada and the United States and primarily serves business customers through financial intermediary partners.
The company obtains substantially all of its deposits and conducts most of its funding activities electronically, allowing it to operate without a traditional branch network.
VersaBank believes this model provides operating leverage while enabling it to serve banking segments that may be underserved by conventional financial institutions.
In August 2024, VersaBank introduced its Structured Receivable Program in the United States.
The program provides funding to point-of-sale finance companies and had previously operated in Canada for more than 15 years.
VersaBank sees the U.S. market as a significant growth opportunity for the program because of the size of the country’s consumer and commercial financing sectors.
The bank is also pursuing opportunities involving digital assets and tokenized banking products.
Through its Minnesota-based subsidiary DRT Cyber, VersaBank provides cybersecurity services to financial institutions, multinational corporations and government organizations.
DRT Cyber also owns technology supporting VersaBank’s Real Bank Tokenized Deposits, a proprietary digital asset offering intended for use within the banking and financial services industry.
VersaBank said Chamberlain will help communicate these growth initiatives and the company’s broader investment thesis to existing and prospective shareholders.
His responsibilities will also include strengthening relationships with analysts and other stakeholders as the bank evaluates strategic opportunities, including its proposed corporate reorganization.
VersaBank’s common shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange and Nasdaq under the ticker symbol VBNK.
