VFP, a leading manufacturer of custom-designed enclosures that safeguard critical infrastructure, announced a $35 million expansion of its operations in Scott County, Virginia. The project represents the company’s third and most significant expansion in the past five years, creating 200 new jobs in Southwest Virginia.

Coinciding with the company’s 60th anniversary, the investment will significantly increase VFP’s production capacity, positioning it to serve better high-growth sectors such as data centers and utility power. Construction is expected to begin in December 2025, marking a significant milestone for the Roanoke-based firm.

The expansion will include two new manufacturing buildings in Duffield, doubling VFP’s capacity for both metal and concrete structures. It also incorporates a groundbreaking workforce housing initiative supported by a $1 million award from the new Workforce Housing Economic Development Incentive Pilot Program. Established by the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission in partnership with Scott County, the program will help launch a housing development that includes at least 50 units for households earning between 80% and 150% of the Area Median Income.

To further bolster the project, the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) is providing a $312,500 workforce development grant and a $3 million loan to the Scott County Economic Development Authority for the acquisition of equipment.

Governor Glenn Youngkin joined VFP executives and regional leaders to commemorate the announcement, highlighting the company’s role in advancing Virginia’s manufacturing and technology sectors.

Founded in 1965, VFP designs and manufactures custom enclosure systems used by utilities, telecommunications providers, municipalities, and broadband companies. The company’s enclosures—ranging from robust concrete shelters to lightweight, modular metal structures—are deployed in all 50 states and 82 countries across seven continents.
