VFP Inc., a manufacturer of custom-built enclosures for critical infrastructure, has announced a $35 million expansion of its operations in Scott County, Virginia. The project represents the company’s third and largest expansion in the area within the last five years, creating 200 new jobs in Southwest Virginia. Construction is expected to begin in December 2025.
The investment aligns with VFP’s 60th anniversary and supports increasing demand for its products, which utility providers, broadband companies, municipalities, and data center operators use. The company currently serves customers across all 50 states, 82 countries, and every continent.
The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority is contributing a $312,500 workforce development grant and a $3 million loan to the Scott County Economic Development Authority to support the acquisition of equipment for the expansion. Additionally, the project will be backed by $1 million from the new Workforce Housing Economic Development Incentive Pilot Program.
The housing initiative will enable a residential development including at least 50 units allocated for households earning between 80 and 150 percent of the Area Median Income, helping support workforce growth as VFP increases production.
The expansion includes the addition of two new buildings in Duffield that will double the company’s manufacturing capacity for both metal and concrete structures. The company stated that this increased capacity will play a central role in meeting market needs, particularly within the data center and electric power sectors.
VFP, founded in 1965 and headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, specializes in the design and manufacture of concrete and metal enclosures that are fully customizable to protect critical and sensitive equipment. The company operates under an employee-ownership model and collaborates closely with local and state organizations in economic development efforts.
