Village Super Market reported higher fourth-quarter and full-year fiscal 2026 sales, supported by digital growth, strong performance in fresh and pharmacy departments, and continued momentum from remodeled and replacement stores.
Fourth-quarter sales increased 1.6% to $609.6 million from $599.7 million a year earlier.
Same-store sales also increased 1.6%, while same-store digital sales grew approximately 6%.
The company said digital demand, fresh and pharmacy performance, and continued gains from recently remodeled and replacement stores supported quarterly growth.
Village Super Market also benefited from the May 27 opening of its replacement store in East Orange, New Jersey.
Gross margin improved modestly to 28.24% from 28.17% a year earlier.
The company attributed the improvement primarily to stronger departmental gross margins, including progress in shrink management and commissary operations.
Fourth-quarter net income totaled $13.6 million, or $0.92 per diluted Class A share.
For the full fiscal year, Village Super Market generated $2.406 billion in sales, up 3.7% from $2.321 billion in fiscal 2025.
Full-year same-store sales increased 2.2%, while same-store digital sales grew approximately 11%.
Full-year sales growth was driven primarily by same-store gains and the openings of replacement stores in Watchung and East Orange, New Jersey.
Fresh and pharmacy departments remained important contributors to comparable-store performance, while remodeled and replacement locations continued to generate growth.
The company’s annual net income totaled $52.5 million, or $3.54 per diluted Class A share.
Adjusted net income was $52.7 million.
Interest expense declined during both the fourth quarter and full fiscal year, primarily reflecting lower average outstanding debt balances.
Village Super Market’s effective income tax rate also improved to 28.8% for fiscal 2026 from 31.1% in the prior year.
The lower annual tax rate was primarily attributable to excess tax benefits associated with vested stock-based compensation.
Village Super Market operates 34 supermarkets across New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania under the ShopRite and Fairway banners.
The company also operates three Gourmet Garage specialty markets in New York City.
