HID has signed an agreement to sell its Public Key Infrastructure business unit to Vista Equity Partners, expanding Vista’s investments in enterprise software and AI-enabled technology.
The transaction includes HID’s PKI software-as-a-service, credential management, and ZeroSSL offerings. The business provides public and private PKI issuance and management, self-service SSL certificates, and on-premises credential and smart card lifecycle management.
HID said the PKI business has developed a strong customer base and that Vista’s scale, enterprise software experience, and capital position the investment firm to support the business as the digital identity market continues evolving.
Vista plans to invest in the platform’s employees, products and relationships with customers and partners. The firm highlighted PKI’s role in helping regulated and compliance-focused organizations establish trusted digital identities and operate securely in digital environments.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, regulatory approvals and employee consultation and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. HID said customers and partners should expect the same products, service and commitments through the transition.
HID is headquartered in Austin, Texas, employs more than 4,500 people globally and supports customers in more than 100 countries. The company is an ASSA ABLOY Group brand.
