Vizcom – a company deploying AI to transform the future of industrial design – announced that it has raised $20 million in Series A funding. This funding round was led by Index Ventures with participation from a renowned roster of angel investors, including Kyle Parrish (VP of Sales at Figma), Steve Mallouf (VP of Sales at Datadog), Daniel Sturman (former CTO of Roblox), and Ayush Sood (Director of Engineering at Figma). With this funding round, Vizcom will continue aggressively investing in technology development and hiring a solid team.
All physical products, from cars to shoes to furnishings, start as drawings and undergo a design process. This process is manual and tedious and requires complicated technical solutions, such as rendering engines and CAD tools, which have a steep learning curve and makes product development challenging.
Vizcom is transforming the process with AI tools that enable designers to turn ideas into photorealistic renderings in real-time and explore infinite variations and combinations to inform their design decisions. The company is bridging the gap between the digital and physical worlds by using generative AI technology to disrupt workflows and create a better, faster, more seamless industrial design process.
Raised in Detroit, Michigan, a city known for its automotive roots, Jordan Taylor (co-founder and CEO of Vizcom) developed a better understanding of the importance of industrial design. This passion led him to study car design and work at Honda, paving the way for a successful career as an industrial designer at Nvidia. In those roles, Taylor primarily worked with hand-rendered paper drawings in Photoshop and communicated with engineers, which could be a tedious and technical process.
Working closely with AI researchers, Taylor saw an opportunity to streamline design workflows for himself and designers worldwide. With his middle school friend, software engineer Kaelan Richards, Taylor co-founded Vizcom to help create a world where ideas, whether sketched, written, or imagined, can be realized quickly. Vizcom already is making impressive progress toward this goal, enhancing design processes for companies like Ford and New Balance.
KEY QUOTES:
“Let’s say the prototyping of a sneaker has historically taken three to six months, with half of that being ideation. With Vizcom’s technology, the ideation process can go from a month to minutes, allowing teams to get a shoe in hand in a fraction of the time. Our vision is to enable design at the speed of thought, and give industrial designers all the tools they need to open new doors for their creativity and bring their ideas to life.”
– Jordan Taylor, cofounder and CEO of Vizcom
“Vizcom’s innovative use of AI is revolutionizing industrial design, accelerating the creative process in ways previously unimaginable. The team’s deep domain expertise has enabled them to create a platform that not only supercharges the design process but also democratizes creativity, allowing designers to bring their visions to life at unprecedented speeds.”
