Vizient announced the acquisition of Empierus, a healthcare-focused advisory firm specializing in information technology contracting, healthcare technology management, and cost optimization.
The acquisition strengthens Vizient’s capabilities in helping healthcare organizations manage growing technology-related spending as providers face increasing financial and operational pressures across non-labor expenses.
According to Vizient, healthcare organizations spend more than $55 billion annually on information technology. As investments in cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation continue to rise, providers are seeking greater visibility and more disciplined approaches to managing IT expenditures.
The acquisition builds on an existing partnership between the two companies. In 2025, Empierus helped deliver more than $36 million in savings for Vizient clients. Following the transaction, Empierus employees will join Vizient’s team of more than 250 experts focused on indirect spend and purchased services categories.
Vizient said the addition of Empierus will enhance its ability to help healthcare organizations bring more technology-related spending under contract, reduce unnecessary costs, and address one of the fastest-growing categories of operational expense.
The Empierus team will become part of Vizient’s indirect spend and purchased services organization. Existing customer relationships, contracts, and support models will remain unchanged.
Headquartered in Irving, Texas, Vizient is the nation’s largest provider-driven healthcare performance improvement company. The company serves more than two-thirds of U.S. acute care providers and more than one-third of ambulatory providers. Its contract portfolio represents approximately $156 billion in annual purchasing volume. In 2024, Vizient expanded its advisory capabilities through the acquisition of Kaufman Hall.
