VLS Environmental Solutions has acquired Environmental & Chemical Consulting (ECC), a Los Angeles-based provider of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management services, in a move that extends VLS’s footprint into Northern California and consolidates its position across the western United States. Financial terms were not disclosed.
ECC operates 10-day hazardous waste transfer facilities in Mentone, California, serving the greater Los Angeles area, and Stockton, California, serving the San Francisco Bay Area. The company handles waste management across a range of industries including manufacturing, retail, government, and telecommunications. Former ECC owner David Rains will join VLS as Senior Director of Business Improvement following the close of the transaction.
VLS is one of the largest privately held environmental and sustainability services companies in the United States, with more than 1,500 employees across more than 50 locations. The company operates across four divisions — non-hazardous waste services, hazardous waste services, rail services, and marine services — and maintains existing West Coast infrastructure across Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, and Tijuana, with processing and logistics capabilities extending to Quartzsite, Deer Park, and Corpus Christi, Texas.
The acquisition fills a specific geographic gap. ECC’s Stockton facility gives VLS its first significant presence in Northern California, connecting the company’s existing southern and southwestern network to the Bay Area market. Together, the combined operations create what VLS describes as a continuous West Coast platform capable of delivering transportation, processing, recycling, and disposal services across the region under a single integrated network.
The deal is the latest step in a deliberate West Coast expansion strategy for VLS, which has been building out its hazardous waste logistics capabilities in the region through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions.
