Vossloh announced it has acquired Nordic Tamping Service AB (NTS), a Borlänge, Sweden-based provider of ballast tamping services for railway tracks, expanding the German rail supplier’s maintenance and lifecycle offering across Scandinavia. The financial terms were not disclosed.
NTS focuses on tamping ballast beds—the crushed-stone foundation beneath rail ties—to restore track geometry and improve stability after heavy use, weather impacts, or construction work. The service is a core part of both new track installation and ongoing maintenance programs, helping rail infrastructure owners maintain ride quality, reduce wear on rails and rolling stock, and support safe operating speeds. NTS primarily operates in Sweden and Norway, and Vossloh said the acquisition brings an experienced local team along with specialized machinery and technical equipment used for tamping operations.
Vossloh said the deal broadens what it can provide to railway network operators in Scandinavia by adding ballast tamping to its existing regional portfolio. In the Nordics, Vossloh already supports customers through a mix of components and services, including the supply of turnouts, fastening systems, and concrete sleepers, as well as track construction and maintenance work. By incorporating tamping capability, Vossloh said it can deliver a more complete set of lifecycle services—ranging from track installation to periodic maintenance interventions—under one umbrella.
NTS will be integrated into Vossloh’s Lifecycle Solutions business unit, the company said. Vossloh currently employs about 530 people across Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, reflecting a footprint built around long-term infrastructure support and recurring maintenance demand. The acquisition fits with Vossloh’s broader strategy of expanding service-based revenue tied to rail network availability and condition, particularly in markets where infrastructure owners are increasing maintenance intensity to meet capacity needs and performance targets.
