Voyager Technologies has been awarded a $22.4 million Other Transaction Agreement from the Strategic Capabilities Office within the Department of War for a research and development program focused on next-generation satellite deployment systems.
The program’s ultimate objective is to transition new technology and capabilities developed through the effort to the U.S. Space Force.
Under the agreement, Voyager will develop prototype but flight-ready small satellite dispensers designed to make greater use of available payload capacity on space launches.
The technology is intended to create additional mission opportunities on launches where payload capacity would otherwise remain unused.
By using that available capacity, the concept could enable additional satellite capabilities to reach orbit without displacing the launch’s primary mission objectives.
The effort is being conducted as an R&D program under an Other Transaction Agreement, a contracting mechanism often used by the government to accelerate development and prototyping of emerging technologies.
Voyager said the program directly supports the Strategic Capabilities Office’s mission of rapidly delivering transformative capabilities and strategic effects to combatant commanders.
The company will bring its existing experience across small satellite missions to the program.
Voyager has worked on small satellite programs for civil, commercial and national security customers and provides capabilities spanning multiple stages of the mission lifecycle.
Its mission-management capabilities include payload integration, launch coordination, safety assurance and on-orbit operations.
The latest program is focused specifically on satellite deployment hardware that could increase the amount of useful capability delivered during national security launches.
Voyager is positioning the project around the concept of extracting additional mission value from launches that have excess payload capacity available after their primary requirements are met.
If the R&D effort successfully transitions into an operational capability, the resulting technology could provide the Space Force with another option for placing small satellites and other capabilities into orbit.
The award also expands Voyager’s work with U.S. national security space organizations as the company develops technologies spanning defense and space missions.
Voyager Technologies is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker VOYG and operates across defense technology and space solutions.
KEY QUOTE:
“This award reflects Voyager’s confidence in our ability to move rapidly from concept to on-orbit capability. We’re excited to work with the DoW on this R&D effort that has the goal of providing the Space Force new tools to put more capability on orbit faster, and without displacing primary mission objectives.”
