Walmart And Google Turn AI Discovery Into Effortless Shopping Experiences

Walmart and Google announced they plan to launch a new shopping experience that brings Walmart and Sam’s Club product discovery directly into Google’s Gemini, aiming to make purchases more intuitive through conversational AI.

The companies said the experience will pair Gemini’s AI capabilities with Walmart’s and Sam’s Club’s assortment, pricing and fulfillment options, allowing Gemini to surface relevant in-store and online items during shopping-related prompts. For instance, a customer asking for help preparing for spring camping could receive product recommendations pulled from Walmart’s and Sam’s Club’s inventory, with additional recommendations appearing as the conversation continues.

Walmart said the experience is designed to help customers move from inspiration to checkout without leaving familiar Walmart or Sam’s Club environments. If customers choose to link accounts, Walmart said it will use purchase history to suggest complementary items, combine suggested items with products already in a customer’s cart, and extend benefits tied to Walmart+ and Sam’s Club memberships.

The companies also highlighted speed of fulfillment as a core element of the integration, pointing to delivery options for locally curated items that can arrive in under three hours and, in some cases, as fast as 30 minutes.

Walmart and Google said the experience will first launch within Gemini in the U.S., with international availability planned afterward. The integration will be built using the Universal Commerce Protocol, which the companies described as a new open standard intended to support agent-led shopping experiences.
