The acquisition brings together investors with experience in broadband infrastructure, telecommunications, and business development to support EarthLink’s next phase of growth. The investor group plans to expand the company’s geographic reach, strengthen its relationships with fiber and 5G network providers, and broaden internet connectivity options for residential and small-business customers.
WaveDivision Capital is led by broadband industry executive Steve Weed, who will work alongside EarthLink’s management team and the other investment partners to support the company’s strategic development.
EarthLink operates an asset-light broadband business model that relies on partnerships with major fiber and 5G providers rather than building and maintaining a nationwide network entirely through its own infrastructure.
Through these relationships, EarthLink can offer fiber internet service to more than 68 million homes nationwide, providing customers with access to broadband services across a broad geographic footprint.
The company’s platform enables consumers and small businesses to evaluate and purchase internet connectivity services through established telecommunications networks while benefiting from EarthLink’s customer service and product offerings.
The acquisition is intended to build on EarthLink’s existing operating model by expanding its network partnerships and increasing the availability of its broadband services in additional markets.
EarthLink’s current leadership team, led by CEO Glenn Goad, will continue working with the new investor group to execute the company’s growth strategy.
The transaction also marks a new chapter in EarthLink’s ownership following its partnership with Trive Capital, which began in 2019.
Trive partnered with EarthLink’s management team to carve out the business from its former publicly traded parent company. Since then, the investment firm has worked with management to expand EarthLink’s operations, strengthen its technology platform, and develop additional wholesale relationships.
These initiatives helped position EarthLink as a nationwide provider of broadband connectivity services for consumers and small businesses.
Trive Capital will retain a minority investment in EarthLink following the acquisition, allowing the firm to continue participating in the company’s future growth alongside WaveDivision Capital, Stephens Capital Partners, and The Pritzker Organization.
The ownership structure brings together EarthLink’s existing management team, its previous investment partner, and new investors focused on accelerating expansion.
For EarthLink, the investment provides an opportunity to build on its established brand recognition and existing relationships with telecommunications providers.
The company offers fiber and 5G internet services designed to provide customers with reliable connectivity, flexible service options, and competitive pricing.
As broadband connectivity becomes increasingly important for remote work, education, entertainment, and business operations, EarthLink is seeking to make internet service selection and activation more accessible to customers across the country.
Its asset-light operating model allows the company to expand service availability through partnerships with network operators, potentially reducing the capital requirements associated with constructing and maintaining physical telecommunications infrastructure.
This approach also enables EarthLink to offer connectivity solutions across multiple technologies and service providers, helping customers identify options suited to their geographic location and service requirements.
Under the new ownership structure, EarthLink intends to expand into additional markets while continuing to develop its relationships with major fiber and 5G providers.
The company also plans to focus on improving the customer experience and offering broadband products that balance service quality, affordability, and reliability.
For the investor group, the acquisition provides exposure to a nationwide broadband services platform with an established customer base and opportunities for continued expansion.
The transaction reflects ongoing investor interest in telecommunications businesses that can benefit from increasing broadband adoption, fiber network expansion, and demand for alternative internet service options.
