Weil Adds Shu Du As Partner To Launch Asia Capital Markets Practice

Weil, Gotshal & Manges appointed Shu Du as a partner in its Corporate practice in Hong Kong, where she will lead the firm’s newly launched Asia Capital Markets practice.

The move significantly expands Weil’s capital markets capabilities in Asia-Pacific and broadens the firm’s global Corporate platform.

Du joins from another global law firm, where she served as head of its Beijing office and developed a practice advising major companies, financial institutions, and private equity sponsors across the region.

She represents corporate clients, investment banks, and private equity funds on capital markets and corporate matters, including securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity transactions.

Weil said establishing an on-the-ground capital markets capability in Asia will more closely connect its global platform with clients and transaction opportunities across the region.

The firm also indicated that Du’s appointment is part of a broader investment in lateral talent across priority practices and markets, with additional partner arrivals expected.

Du has advised on major transactions throughout Greater China and has longstanding relationships with leading companies in the market.

Her arrival strengthens Weil’s ability to advise private equity sponsors, corporate issuers, and underwriters on debt and equity capital markets matters.

Weil’s broader Capital Markets practice handles transactions including high-yield and investment-grade debt, initial public offerings, secondary and follow-on offerings, private placements, convertible and exchangeable securities, acquisition financings, and tender and exchange offers.

The firm’s Hong Kong office advises corporate and private equity clients on transactions throughout Asia-Pacific, including China, India, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

It also handles cross-border matters connecting Asia-Pacific with North America and Europe.

Du has received recognition from Chambers Global and Chambers Greater China Region, including for equity capital markets work.

She was also named among Asian Legal Business’ Dealmakers of Asia in 2023 and 2025.

In 2025, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific recognized Du as a Next Generation Partner for Equity Capital Markets and Corporate/M&A, while IFLR1000 named her a Highly Regarded lawyer for Capital Markets: Equity and Corporate and M&A.
