International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP announced that Andrew Nichol has joined the firm as a partner in its U.S. Private Equity and Private Funds Groups, based in New York.
Nichol advises major fund sponsors and investors on strategic matters in the asset management and wealth management sectors. His work includes GP-stake transactions, preferred equity financings, platform investments and bespoke seeding structures, as well as other strategic matters related to structuring asset management businesses and expanding investment products. He also represents leadership teams and founders on upper-tier structuring, team transitions, and succession planning.
Nichol joined Weil from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he served as a partner in the firm’s Investment Funds practice and GP Solutions group.
The appointment comes as the market for GP-stakes and strategic capital transactions involving asset managers continues to expand. Weil said Nichol’s experience advising asset managers and investors will strengthen the firm’s capabilities in this segment.
Since the start of 2025, Weil has added 15 lateral partners across its Private Equity and Private Funds practices and promoted eight lawyers to partner. The firm said the hires reflect its ongoing investment in private capital capabilities across New York, London, and Germany.
Founded in 1931, Weil has approximately 1,200 lawyers across offices in the Americas, Europe and Asia and operates across four main departments: Corporate, Litigation, Restructuring, and Tax, Executive Compensation & Benefits.
