The Wendy’s Company announced that Robert D. “Bob” Wright has been appointed as president and chief executive officer. Wright will also join the company’s board of directors as Wendy’s looks to accelerate operational improvements and long-term growth initiatives.
Wright returns to Wendy’s with decades of restaurant industry leadership experience. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of Potbelly Corporation, where he oversaw expansion efforts and helped build one of the restaurant industry’s fastest-growing digital platforms. His prior experience also includes senior leadership positions at Domino’s Pizza, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, and Charleys Philly Steaks.
According to the company, Wright previously held multiple senior leadership roles at Wendy’s, including executive vice president and chief operations officer. The board said his operational expertise, franchise relationships, and brand-building experience made him the right leader for Wendy’s next phase.
Art Winkleblack, chairman of Wendy’s board of directors, said the company conducted a “thorough and comprehensive search” before selecting Wright for the role. Winkleblack added that Wright’s leadership style and operational focus align with Wendy’s strategic priorities and long-term turnaround efforts.
Wendy’s also confirmed that Ken Cook will continue serving as chief financial officer following his period as interim CEO. The company credited Cook’s leadership during the transition period, including helping establish the company’s “Project Fresh” strategy designed to strengthen operations and improve brand performance.
The company said Project Fresh is intended to improve the foundation of the business and support a broader turnaround strategy as Wendy’s navigates competitive and economic pressures across the quick-service restaurant sector.
Founded by Dave Thomas in 1969, Wendy’s operates more than 7,000 restaurants worldwide and remains known for its square hamburgers, Frosty desserts, baked potatoes, and fresh-never-frozen beef offerings.
