WeRide: L2++/L3 Revenue Surges 2,594% As WRD 3.0 Deliveries Reach 30,000 Units

WeRide’s L2++ and L3 autonomous-driving business entered a rapid commercialization phase during the second quarter of 2026, with revenue surging approximately 2,593.8% year-over-year as deliveries of its WRD 3.0 solution reached approximately 30,000 units.

Revenue from the L2++/L3 business also increased 219.3% sequentially, making the operation an increasingly important second growth engine alongside WeRide’s L4 robotaxi and robobus businesses.

WRD 3.0 is WeRide’s one-stage end-to-end L2++/L3 autonomous-driving solution. The company has secured L2++ production design wins covering more than 30 vehicle models as well as an L3 proof-of-concept project.

The platform is also beginning to expand internationally. WRD 3.0 has entered on-road testing and localization validation in France, Germany, Japan and other overseas markets, creating another potential pathway for WeRide’s technology beyond its existing China deployments.

The rapid commercialization contributed to strong companywide growth. Q2 total revenue increased 82.2% year-over-year and 103.1% sequentially to RMB231.7 million, or approximately $34.2 million. WeRide said the increase was driven by expansion in both its L4 operations and L2++/L3 business.

L4 revenue reached RMB125.2 million, or approximately $18.5 million, increasing 47.3% year-over-year and 130.6% sequentially. The business includes robotaxi and robobus operations.

The changing revenue mix is also improving gross profitability. Q2 gross profit increased to RMB86.9 million from RMB35.7 million, while gross margin expanded to 37.5% from 28.1%. WeRide attributed the margin expansion primarily to increased contributions from the higher-margin L2++/L3 and overseas L4 businesses.

WeRide continued investing heavily in technology despite the improving operating profile. Q2 R&D expense increased to RMB434.3 million from RMB318.9 million, driven by higher personnel and outsourced labor costs, depreciation and amortization, and cloud service fees.

The company reported a quarterly loss of RMB400.7 million, or approximately $59.1 million, compared with RMB406.4 million a year earlier. EBITDA improved 8.1% to a loss of RMB335.4 million from a loss of RMB364.8 million.

WeRide’s other major business is also showing stronger operating economics. Average daily robotaxi rides per vehicle increased 24% sequentially to more than 21, with peak completed rides reaching 28 per vehicle per day. Registered robotaxi users increased 35% sequentially and domestic ride-hailing revenue jumped approximately 140%.

The company’s L4 fleet reached approximately 3,400 vehicles as of July 31, including more than 1,800 robotaxis. WeRide’s autonomous-driving businesses have expanded to more than 60 cities across 13 countries.

WeRide is also developing AI models designed to reduce the computational cost of training autonomous systems. Its WITT Physical AI cognitive foundation model is designed to reduce token costs by as much as 98%, process up to 10,000 minutes of vehicle-operation video per day on a single GPU, and provide up to 200 times greater data-processing efficiency in comparable workloads.

Its GENESIS world model is designed to simulate high-fidelity driving environments, allowing autonomous systems to train, validate and iterate virtually. WeRide said the system can compress millions of kilometers of physical road testing into days while reducing data collection and annotation costs by more than 75%.

The combination of L4 deployment and rapid L2++/L3 commercialization gives WeRide exposure to two different autonomous-driving business models: operating highly autonomous fleets while also supplying technology that can be incorporated into a broader range of production vehicles.

KEY QUOTES:

“On the technology front, our 3,400-strong L4 fleet, anchored by robotaxi, and our one-stage end-to-end L2++ solution, which delivered approximately 30,000 units in a single quarter, have both achieved scaled commercial deployment, positioning WeRide at the forefront of the industry.”

“WeRide is now transitioning from technology leadership to global scaled deployment, entering the next chapter of autonomous driving commercialization.”

Tony Han, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WeRide

“In parallel, our one-stage end-to-end L2++/L3 solution has entered a phase of rapid commercial growth, opening an additional high-growth revenue stream.”
