White & Case has expanded its Global Intellectual Property Practice and Global Life Sciences and Healthcare Industry Group with the addition of four partners focused on life sciences trials and disputes: Elizabeth Holland, Nicholas Mitrokostas, William James, and Daniel Margolis.

Holland joins as head of the firm’s Global Life Sciences IP Litigation Practice, while Mitrokostas will serve as co-head of the Global Life Sciences and Healthcare Industry Group. The team will continue working from New York, Washington, DC, and Boston.

White & Case said the group brings a combined track record across patent litigation, trade secrets matters, and licensing disputes, advising pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies in complex, high-stakes cases. The firm also positioned the move as part of a broader global lateral growth push, noting this is the seventh partner group it has added over the past year across practices including M&A, litigation, tax, and intellectual property.

Holland is described as a first-chair trial lawyer with experience leading pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device matters, including Hatch-Waxman and BPCIA litigation, licensing disputes, arbitrations, inter partes review proceedings, and Federal Circuit appeals. Mitrokostas is a first-chair life sciences trial lawyer with experience in patent, trade secret, and licensing disputes spanning biologics and small molecules, including matters before federal courts, the PTAB, and the ITC, as well as arbitration work involving patent and regulatory exclusivity issues in late-stage drug development.

James focuses on Hatch-Waxman, biologics, and medical device litigation and has served as lead counsel in district court, Federal Circuit, PTAB, arbitration, and ITC matters. Margolis specializes in pharmaceutical, biologic, biotechnology and chemical patent cases, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in federal courts and before the PTAB and ITC.

The firm said the hires strengthen its ability to support life sciences clients navigating rapid innovation, regulatory complexity and continued R&D investment, while adding trial depth across key life sciences forums.
