White & Case has appointed Tarun Warriar as a partner in Hong Kong, expanding its Global Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Practice and Global Private Capital Industry Group amid increasing demand for complex restructuring and special situations advice across Asia-Pacific.

Warriar advises on financial restructurings, capital solutions, distressed situations, M&A, and debt financing across public and private markets.

His client base includes hedge funds, private equity firms, debtors, creditors, bondholders, institutional investors, and ad hoc creditor committees.

Warriar also brings significant experience advising on India-focused transactions and investments.

He joins White & Case from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where he was a partner.

Before that, he served as Managing Director and Asia-Pacific General Counsel at Värde Partners, the global investment firm focused on credit and credit-related assets.

White & Case believes that combination of private practice and in-house investment experience will strengthen its ability to advise investors and companies navigating stressed and distressed situations across Asia.

The firm sees growing complexity across restructuring markets as capital structures become larger and more sophisticated.

Transactions can increasingly require simultaneous advice spanning debt finance, high-yield securities, M&A, restructuring, insolvency, litigation, and corporate governance across multiple jurisdictions.

Warriar’s appointment adds regional expertise to White & Case’s broader international restructuring platform.

The firm also expects his experience to complement its established M&A and debt finance practices in Asia-Pacific.

White & Case is positioning the addition around continued growth in private capital and credit markets, where increasingly complex financing structures can create both investment opportunities and restructuring situations.

KEY QUOTES:

“Tarun’s broad experience across restructuring, special situations, M&A, and debt finance makes him an outstanding addition to our global capabilities. He brings a sophisticated understanding of the market and a proven record advising clients in complex, high stakes engagements.”

“His arrival adds even further strength to our Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Practice and deepens our ability to advise our clients on their most complex restructuring matters.”

Heather McDevitt, Chair of White & Case

“Over the last 15 years, there has been a seismic explosion in the quantum and construct of capital investment on both a global and regional basis. This phenomenon has included southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim.”

“Restructuring opportunities, which follow new investment as night follows day, have increased correspondingly and have become increasingly complex and nuanced, frequently requiring simultaneous, coordinated advice across multiple jurisdictions and disciplines, including debt finance, high yield, M&A, in and out of court restructuring and insolvency expertise, governance and litigation.”

“As this trend has continued, and with no end in sight, we are on the constant lookout for opportunities to increase and enhance our industry leading multijurisdictional financial restructuring and insolvency capabilities. Tarun’s regional expertise, coupled with the strength of our global restructuring platform and our established M&A and debt finance practices in the region, gives us the ability to stay on the cutting edge of the business and to continue to give our clients what they come to us for, the best advice for their most difficult problems.”
