Cencosud announced that it has agreed to acquire 100% of Makro Supermayorista in Colombia.
The transaction is being carried out through Cencosud Internacional SpA and represents an estimated investment of $158 million. Cencosud said the acquisition will be fully financed with its own resources.
Makro has operated in Colombia for more than 25 years and has a wholesale-focused value proposition serving professional customers and entrepreneurs.
The business operates 21 stores across 16 Colombian cities, including Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and Barranquilla.
The acquisition will expand Cencosud’s presence in Colombia and add the Cash & Carry wholesale format to its operations in the country.
Cencosud said the deal will also create opportunities for operational, logistical, and commercial synergies.
For Cencosud, Makro’s footprint adds scale in a high-potential segment and strengthens the company’s ability to serve professional customers and entrepreneurs seeking wholesale solutions.
The acquisition also advances Cencosud’s broader regional wholesale strategy. The company previously acquired Makro in Argentina in 2025 and operates Giga in Brazil.
The closing of the transaction is subject to customary conditions, including approval from Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
Cencosud is one of the largest retail companies in the Americas. The company operates in six countries with more than 115,000 employees, 1,446 retail stores, and more than 3.5 million square meters of sales area.
Its multi-format strategy includes supermarkets, home improvement, department stores, shopping centers, and financial services. The company also develops business lines such as Cencosud Media and private brands.
